VIRTUAL TRIP TO FRANCE – Vanoise National Park in the French Alps
In this period when travel abroad is not authorized, we suggest you fly to France to discover some of our favorites: a charming village, a National Park, a culinary specialty, a historical monument or even a cultural event.
First French National Park in France
This week, you land in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to discover ‘Le Parc National de la Vanoise’. It was the first French National Park created in 1963, with an area of 535km2, to protect the ibex which was endangered in the Vanoise massif.
The fauna and flora in the National Park
In the Park, the landscapes are breathtaking. At the edge of rivers and lakes or at the top of mountains, we can marvel at an incredible flora of beauty. From the pink of the rhododendrons to the blue of the thistle of the Alps, passing by the white of the edelweiss… 1,400 plant species are present, including 65 protected species.
During a hike, we not only discover flowers but we also come across animals such as ibex (emblem of the park), chamois, marmots, vultures or even the golden eagle.
Mission of the Park
The main mission of the park today is therefore to safeguard its landscapes, the diversity of its plant and animal species as well as its cultural heritage. The villages have managed to preserve their authenticity, their traditions and their local products. We can taste there delicious local dishes (taritiflette, raclette,…) and products (charcuterie, Beaufort,…).
Together, here and elsewhere, let’s continue to protect our national parks for future generations.
